How We Got Here

About a year ago, several women from DCHS, Minnetrista, and Ball State got together to talk about women in Muncie and Delaware County – past and present – who have made a difference. Could we come up with a list of 100 women, we wondered, who were authors or artists, who ran a business or were professionals, or who worked diligently to make the community a better place. It didn’t take long to come up with a list of 100 women, then 125, then 150, and so on. Currently, there are more than 300 women on the list, and it grows daily.  All are notable, and some are notorious.

We’ve had many conversations with many people who are also excited about the history of women in the county. Now it’s time to share. DCHS is establishing a new program called “Notable Women of Delaware County.” The organizational meeting took place on Thursday, August 22, 2019 at 6:30 p.m. in the DCHS Resource Center.  We are meeting every fourth Thursday of the month. Please plan to attend and help us celebrate women who have made history.

By the way, while we’ll focus on women in this group, men are more than welcome to attend. After all, making and sharing history isn’t confined to one gender.

This is just a partial list.  More notable women will be added, so check back often.
